A UI/UX Engineer gives input on retail point of sale user interface and user experience. The engineer should be self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to keep up-to-date on the leading practices in user interface design and usability. They work with a high degree of independence to develop information systems to support the business. This individual will be expected to understand and develop solutions using FXML, CSS, Java, and other technologies as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Complete development tasks as assigned with little/no supervision.
Create new screens and maintain old systems to ensure they fit overall design and usability criteria.
Guide junior team members as needed.
Comply with industry and company best practices.
Comply with O'Reilly policies and procedures .
Assist in determining overall look and feel of web site.
Create mock-ups and UX documentation.
Write clean, semantic FXML and CSS.
Experience using version control systems.
Experience with responsive design.
Extensive experience with CSS preprocessors such as SASS.
Extensive experience and knowledge of testing and debugging.
Design icons, banners, related materials as needed.
Maintain a solid knowledge of leading practices in user interface usability techniques.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Work with large, cross-departmental teams to ensure point of sale system meets design standards and business requirements accordingly.

SKILLS / EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / ABILITIES
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Graphic/Web Design or comparable work experience.
Extensive experience in designing interface mockups in Photoshop or Adobe XD.
Deep knowledge of FXML/HTML and CSS standards.
Basic knowledge of Java or another object oriented programming language.
Experience researching and implementing new technologies.
Ability to test and debug .
Good communications skills.
Experience with responsive design.
Desired:
Experience with JavaFX.
Experience with IntelliJ IDEA.
Experience working within a team and using a version control system such as GIT.
